ENAnonymous questioning of students of nursing speciality was carried out at Utena College, Faculty of Health and Social Care. 103 questionnaires were distributed, 91 questionnaires were received back. Group 1 (67.8 proc.) - students of individual studies having practical experience in nurse’s work; group 2 (32.2 proc.) - first year students having no practical experience in nurse’s work who entered Utena College after graduation from secondary school. Having generalized the findings of the study it was found out that comparative analysis of the questionnaire survey of the first year students having no practical experience in nurse’s work and students of individual studies having practical experience in nurse’s work disclosed quite many differences. Although the motivation of selection of studies is very similar of both groups, the motivation of practicing nurses is surely stronger than of the second group students: I have always been interested in this speciality therefore I decided to study, wish to remain in present position, wish for better salary, learning healthy mode of life, wish for greater respect by the. co-workers (friends, family, colleagues, head).Practicing students patience, ability to make decisions independently, to solve problems, emotional stability, tolerance, perceptivity, ability to self-actualize consider to be very important features of a nurse much more often. The qualities necessary for good nurse, such as tolerance, self-help (p <0.05,) are more characteristic to them but openness is more characteristic to the representatives of group 2. The students having no practical experience in nurse’s work considers this work to be heavier. [From the publication]
