ENMany historical personalities have made Pasvalys region known. Antanas Pranciðkus Audzijonis (Audzevièius), the former bishop of Vilnius (1890-1895), was one of them.The biography of bishop Andzijonis is important not only to the history of the church. He was the first bishop of Vilnius who made attempts to limit the monopoly of Polonism in the churches of the diocese and spoke for the development of pastoral work in the spoken language of the people, so in the Lithuanian language too. Bishop A. P. Audzijonis supported the small group of intellectuals who in the second half of the 19th century started to arouse the Lithuanianism in the polonised old capital of Lithuania and in the region of Vilnius.
