ENThe idea of the article is based on the concept that intelligentsia is a group with special role and meaning for a society. According to the work of Florian Znaniecki (Modern Nationalities), members of this group can be leaders in the process of building a national culture and identity. Therefore, for the Polish minority in Lithuania its important to raise a new generation of well-educated national leaders, who will safeguard and preserve Polish culture in the future. As it is proved by results of research conducted on the polish students in Lithuanian higher education institutions and other data, young Poles in Lithuania, are willing to educate and obtain an university diploma. Polish schools in Lithuania, are considered by pupils to deliver high quality of teaching, and even though Lithuanian language course are teached with a limited curriculum, they have the same chances to enter higher education as graduates of Lithuanian schools. Students with Polish roots mostly declare Polish identity and use Polish language in an everyday communication, what suggests that the assimilation process is not widespread. In the group of Polish students there are activists who engage themselves into organizations focused on the issues of Polish minority, who are expected to be future leaders of community.
