ENThe primary purpose of this article was to analyze the course of Lithuanian society’s fight for freedom. There is a variety of actions undertaken by Lithuanians described, such as guerilla wars after WWII up to mass meetings. The process of developing proindependence tendencies is outlined starting with a small group of dissenters in the sixties and ending with formation of national organizations consisting of thousands of people. Furthermore, the most important organizations that united and led huge numbers of people in order to fight with the occupying forces are presented. The importance of exceptional role of Catholic Church and priests is mentioned as well. The author describes the participation of the Polish minority in the process of the revival of the Lithuanian Republics independence. There was analyzed the controversial issue of the Polish autonomous areas, which up to these days has not been estimated. Moreover, different examples of common fight of Poles and Lithuanians for Lithuania’s freedom are provided. Particular emphasis was placed on the actions that are usually passed over within the Lithuanian historiography. [From the publication]
