LTVilniečių sveikatą pradėta stebėti, gydytojams susibūrus į Vilniaus gydytojų draugiją. Tam tikrų ligų paplitimas pirmiausia priklausė nuo meteorologinių sąlygų ir miesto sanitarinės būklės. Pirmaisiais XIX a. metais pro Vilnių pražygiavo Rusijos ir Napoleono kariuomenės. Ypatingai sunkūs buvo 1807 ir 1812 metai, kai mieste kilo grėsmingos epidemijos. Pirmaisiais XIX a. dešimtmečiais imtasi naujų iniciatyvų siekiant suteikti medicininę pagalbą vargingiausiems visuomenės sluoksniams. ENThe health condition of Vilnians began to be monitored owing to the efforts of physicians who were members of Vilnius Medical Society. The occurrence of particular illnesses was mostly connected to weather (seasonal ailments) and sanitary conditions of the city. In the first years of the 19th century Vilnius found itself on the route of marching troops of Russian and Napoleonic armies. The city faced the most grave epidemic threats in 1807 and 1812. Therefore in the first decades of the 19th century new initiatives aimed at providing lower social classes with basic health care were undertaken. [From the publication]
