ENThe director and founder of the Lithuanian Folklore Theatre, Povilas Mataitis (b. 1933), corrects some misunderstandings concerning the foundation of this unique group of artists and the early years of their activities. He reminds us that the first public performance by the Lithuanian Folklore Theatre (then called the Ethnographic Ensemble) took place on 13 April 1968 in the Great Hall of the LSSR State Conservatory (now the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre). The artists of this theatre, wearing costumes by Dalia Mataitienė, performed for the first time on 11 January 1971, in the Great Hall of the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society.
