ENIt is more often said that Lithuanian dialects in Poland are not only to change or get eradicated, but even to be vanishing. An example of such erosion is the fact that informers using the dialect of Punsk cease to “assibilate” or do not spell the dark “l“ before such front vowels like “e”. It is true that these dialects are hugely influenced by literary Lithuanian and Polish languages, which are recognized as the main “culprits” of the destabilization of these dialects. However, do those dialects actually surrender completely to the “pressure” from the literary languages? Do they really get eradicated? Or maybe they are simply developing? How it really is? In this article an attempt to answer all those questions will be taken. [From the publication]
