ENMonograph, written in the intersection of the studies of the history of art, philosophy, sociology, science and technology studies, education and art studies, explores the production and dissemination of knowledge in the modern art, science and culture. The author uses the diagrammatic and scientific writing with text and images, and deals with a new, emerging phenomenon-artistic investigation while analysing its concepts and expressions in art, science, and education. Although the world has not been surprised with the doctoral programmes, providing a degree for the artists, it still a new practice in Lithuania. The monograph examines the assumptions of the emergence of artistic research, the problem of the definition, the relation with art and science, methodology and the changing identity of researchers and creators. The examples of artistic research in doctoral programmes, in modern art of Lithuania and various researches in between the areas are analysed. The book opens up the problem field and helps to make a basis for the scientific and art discussion.
