ENSome episodes of the 1919-1920 battles for Lithuania's Independence in the area of Ramygala are discussed, during the war with Soviet, Bermontian and Polish forces. The fight by the just created Lithuanian army, partisans, riflemen, volunteers and mobilised conscripts is analysed. Hundreds of men in the region joined the army voluntarily and were called fighters volunteers. Destiny of some of them was tragic: they were killed in the battles or lost. During the fight for independence, the Ramygala men had also actively flocked into partisan riflemen groups, resisted the invasion of the enemy and backed the Lithuanian Army, h was a unique type of fighting. Thus, Lithuanian volunteers, partisan fighters, most often landless peasants had defended the independence of Lithuania. [From the publication]
