ENThe aim of this study was to reveal the intellectual capabilities of tenth form secondary school pupils and second form gymnasium pupils and to find peculiarities of the relation between the intellectual capabilities and vocational interests which could be helpful to pupils’ vocational self-determination. 215 pupils participated in the study. We used R. Amthauer IST-70 methodology to research the capabilities. The pupils’ interests were investigated with the help of a questionnaire composed for the purpose. We carried out a correlative analysis of the pupils’ academic records of the second trimester and the results of R. Amthauer IST-70 subtests. Dispersive analysis showed that there was a relation between intellectual capabilities and vocational interests. All of our hypotheses proved correct. The academic records of separate subjects of the tenth form pupils and their coeval gymnasium pupils correlate most with the intellectual capabilities necessary for studying those subjects.
