Summary / Abstract:

ENThe manuscript of the Annales deposited by its author Jan Długosz at the University of Cracow and kept there till the middle of the 17th century, already by the end of the 15th century had been copied many times. The first publication was undertaken in 1711-1712. The work of Jan Długosz was fairly well known appreciated and venerated in Poland. The copies of Dlugosz’s manuscript were disseminated throughout the Polish Kingdom, and in the end of the 18th century their number reached 110-120. In the 16th century Annales were used by all Polish historians (Miechowita, Bernard Wapowski, Marcin Kromer, Maciej Stryjkowski, etc.) and read by professors and students at the University. The work of Długosz had also found its way to the hands the governing and intellectual elite (bishops and senators - Krzysztof Szydłowiecki, Piotr Kmita, Piotr Tomicki, Jan Ocieski, Hieronim Rozrażewski) connected with Jagellonian court, then to the landed gentry, municipal and land officials (Jan Sierakowski, Jan Krzysztoporski, Stanisław Przedbor Koniecpolski, Marcin Oleśnicki). One of the most interesting copies is the text known as the „Codex Gnesnensis”. It was written in the 16th century, ca. 1525-1536. The author wants to show that the writer has made a copy of Dlugosz’s „the autograph”, so that it represents a more related text (and better) than the manuscripst known as „świętokrzyski”.
