Summary / Abstract:

ENGerman philosopher Johan Heinrich Abicht (1762-1816) spent the last twelve years of his academic career, that is from 1804 till 1816. teaching in Vilnius University-. His philosophical thinking of that period is examined in this article as an integral part of Lithuanian philosophy development. At the beginning the great influence of Kant’s philosophy and of Kantian school to Abicht’s thinking is exposed. The most attention is given to his epistemology, which is the main link between his own thinking and Kant’s critical philosophy. Apriorism. phenomenalism and tendency for psychological explication of epistemological problems are shown as the basic aspects of Abicht’s epistemology. The metaphysical orientation of his epistemology is indicated as an essential opposition to Kant’s epistemology. The revision of philosophical principles, caused by the clash with skepticism, and the influence of that event to Abicht’s philosophical creativity is considered. Keywords: Lithuanian philosophy, Kant’s criticism, philosophy of Kantian school, Abicht’s philosophy.
