Dar kartą apie "Aušrą"

ENThe article attempts to revise the commonly accepted opinion about the "Aušra" (Dawn) newspaper as a cultural rather than political periodical. Firstly, the newspaper was published illegally which by itself implied political action. Even more importantly, the content of the newspaper suggested the withdrawal from the unionist tradition, supported the right of the Lithuanian people to have education in their own language on their ethnographic territory. This not only meant the course towards modern nation-building in Lithuania, but also created the prerequisites for the reconstruction of the region based on the national principle.
