ENResearch shows that physical education (PE) teachers represent a profession where activities are linked to a permanent mental and physical stress, overwork, frustration, i.e. poor wellbeing. Their job specificity is unique and different from that of other participants of the education process as they have to follow certain requirements: control emotions, behave flawlessly, follow the rules of work procedures, general hygiene standards, health requirements, and safety rules in the gym that causes difficulties in the professional work of a PE teacher. The complexity of the professional role of a PE teacher is conditioned by various programme documents. These statements show that in the context of this study it is important to discuss the manifestations of PE teacher’s professionalism and the documents governing them. Research aim was to carry out the content analysis of documents regulating PE teacher’s activities and identifying the complexity of the professional role. The data of the document analysis were processed using the methods of literature research and descriptive content analysis. It was carried out keeping in mind the aim and purpose of the development of the documents, the logic of determining what is typical and what is atypical in those documents, finding differences and links. If the texts did not contain words, sentences, paragraphs related to the specific topic of the analysis or it was impossible to describe its compliance/noncompliance, the closest to the analysis aspects of the text were analysed and interpreted in addition as they indirectly reflected the compliance/non-compliance of the theme of the analysis.Qualitative analysis of the documents suggests that PE teacher in Lithuania is characterized by multifunctional professional role complexity and includes four main functions: a coach, a manager, a physician / health care professional, and a security instructor / supervisor – and all of those lead to predict the reasons for PE teachers’ poor wellbeing that may influence their professional position.
