Krajobraz mentalny miasta (na podstawie wspomnień wilnian)

ENIn humanist discourse there is an opposition of space and place, where the space becomes universal and abstractive, and the place is saturated with meanings and equally important existential experiences – including sensual experiences. To identify the place as perceived individually and saturated with subjective meanings we use the term „mental map”. The subject of this analysis are the memories of residents of Vilnius. In the texts we can find such subjectives and their own places which are the products of their memories, cultural memories, collective perceptions and historical reality. They form specific microtopography of Vilnius, namely they provide a written representations of selected parts of Vilnius. These texts describe the two decades of interwar Vilnius in all multidimensionality and in cultural archives of Vilnius we can see that categories such as everyday life, family, privacy are putting down the roots resulting in that the image of the city begins to gain new features.
