ENThe article highlights how Kraszewski compared in his letters social and political development on Eastern Borderlands with Western lands. Western lands is an accepted term which refers to western parts inhabited by the Poles. While travelling to Western countries, Germany and Italy, in 1858 and 1860, Kraszewski had a possibility to observe how backward the Eastern lands were in comparison with the Western territories leaded by Prussia (Silesia). Subsequently, the writer started to call for organic work (work from basics) to develop not only the Borderlands but also the Kingdom of Poland. Writers critical remarks about the social situation caused conflict with Wolyns aristocracy and, as a consequence, he had to move to Warsaw with his family.
