Summary / Abstract:

ENThe paper raises two issues, the first being the historic myth - the myth of sublimity in particular, and the second being the objectives of micro-history. The everyday life of Crown and Lithuanian armies in the seventeenth century is examined by the author in the following categories: organization and composition of social and national factors, social status, official relations and training, military discipline, accommodation and marches, food provisioning, clothing, health, frivolous soldiers, attitude towards the king and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, beliefs, lifestyle and societal transformations, companion of life and enjoyment, the fate of the demobilized, and attitude towards death. The research confirms that a demand for further queries and analysis still exists, especially for areas less examined by historians, such as diversity of attitudes, careers, behavior, historical and socio-cultural context. The problems of everyday life for Crown and Lithuanian army soldiers in the seventeenth century is especially fascinating, if we look into the issues of material culture and research individual psychological portraits, whose grave aspect is the „cavalry fantasy”. History is an idiographic science, which shows a wealth of facts, processes and interpretations, therefore heroic army acts should not be depreciated.
