ENA special branch of decorative art that was most popular in the Baltic and Northern Ugro-Finnish countries is the pick-up folk sashes. In this paper the author gives the analysis of the geometrical ornament of the Žemaičiai sashes. The Žemaičiai sash ornament is the most insufficiantly investigated area of Lithuanian sashes. In Table 1 the author presents 17 basic types of the ornamental motifs of the Žemaičiai sashes, the percentage showing the popularity of different types of patterns in the Žemaičiai sashes (the ornament employed in all the Žemaičiai sashes is marked as being 100 per cent). Table 2 shows the specificity of the Žemaičiai ornaments. The article provides a detailed analysis of the structure of sash ornamentation: the composite elements (background pattern and ornament) and the variants of their structural interlacing, the proportional interrelation of the ornament with the width of the sash, the variants of the compositional layout of the patterns in the vertical registers. Five styles of Žemaičiai sash ornament interpretation are distinguished and presented in the article. The description ot the Žemaičiai pick-up sash ornaments here is only very general and rather is the result of the first investigative steps in this field.
