ENThe article describes the scope of an inter-medial dialog “literature – painting” basing on the analysis of references to the A. Grottger’s “Lituania” panel series, which are present in selected works of Polish an Lithuanian literature of the second half of the 19th century and in the beginning of the 20th century. The following works were discussed in terms of their content and formal aspects: “Lituanika” (“Lithuanica”) by Artur Grottger H. Wróblewski, B. Komorowski, Wł. Bełza & Wł. Ordon; “Z teki Grottgera” (“From the Portfolio of Grottger”) by M. Konopnicka; “Litwa. Utwór poetyczny w 6 pieśniach według 6 obrazów Grottgera” (“Lithuania. A Poem in 6 Songs Based on 6 Paintings by Grottger”) J. Miodoński, “We mgle” (“In the Mist”) by H. Sienkiewicz, “Soból i panna” (“A Sable and a Lady”) by J. Weyssenhoff; “Dėl Tėvynės” (“For the Homeland”) by M. Pečkauskaitė-Šatrijos Ragany; “Liūdna pasaka” (“A Sad Tale”) by J. Biliūnas. Contextually invoked is the history of the origin of the “Lituania” series and its reception based on the evaluation of the Uprising of 1863 from the perspective of the Poles and Lithuanians.
