Summary / Abstract:

ENIn the fall of 2014 we once again could visit one of the most important ceramic and glass art projects in Europe - international biennial, which takes place in Danish Bomholm island. This year it was dedicated to ceramic only, thus it was named European Ceramic Context 2014. Therefore we want to share our ideas about it. Some of the main events during European Ceramic Context are the exhibitions. The exhibition programme includes the two main exhibitions organized by European Ceramic Context 2014, but also a number of other adjoining exhibitions on Bomholm, organized by other groups, curators and artists. European Ceramic Context 2014 aims to show an overview of the best European contemporary ceramics in two large scale exhibitions. Two extensive exhibitions in each exhibition category show the work of two ceramic artists from each of 30 European countries. The work of all together 120 artists are presented in the exhibitions. There are two categories of exhibitionists of European Ceramic Art. One of them is for works made by professional, established artists within the field of ceramic art. This exhibition was shown at the Bornholm Art Museum. The curatorial concept for the European Ceramic Context exhibitions aims to show an overview of contemporary ceramics from professional ceramicists and ceramic artists in Europe, in all its diversity.New talent - the other category - is for professional emerging ceramic artists under the age of 35 years. This exhibition was shown at Gronbechs Gard (Hasie). Artists can participate in the exhibitions by nominations only. A national commissioner was appointed by the organizers in each participating country. The national commissioners nominate artists for participation. A selection committee makes the final selection. An exhibition catalogue also was produced representing all exhibiting artists with images of their work, a short CV and a critical note written by the national commissioners. An online version of the exhibition catalogue also has been produced through this website.
