Fenomen pamięci historycznej w twórczości pisarzy pierwszej połowy XX wieku: powieści historyczne Fabiana Niewierowicza w kontekście literatury Litewskiej i Polskiej

ENThe article analyses the issue of historical memory in Fabijonas Neveravičius' (1900-1981) historical novels "Blaškomos liepsnos" and "Erškėčiai" in the context of Lithuanian and Polish historical writing. On the basis of the theory of collective memory, the writer's attitude towards history as well as the ideas and values he represents are revealed, and at the same time an attempt is made to explain the origin of his ideas and judgements. In his novels, F. Neveravičius presents a historical picture of the collapse of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the November Uprising (1831). They shift the boundaries of memory about Lithuanian history by introducing events and characters from a period which often tends to be forgotten. He highlights the achievements of the gentry in Lithuanian history and states that its realm and culture are an inseparable part of Lithuanian nationhood. Neveravičius' novels are, in a way, close to the Polish tradition of historical writing due to their subject-matter, interpretation of historical facts and the characters developed in them. However, he interlinks this tradition with judgements rooted in the memories of Lithuanian history.
