ENThis article is the analysis of the development of Lithuanian glass industry reflecting its four periods: the nature of the first glass finds in Lithuania; the prosperity of glass industry manufactures in Lithuanian Grand principality; the development of the manufactures into glass factories and the rise of the professional glass industry in Lithuania after the appearance of skilled artists in the middle of the 20th century after the training of glass specialists began in the seventh decade. One tries to disclose the breaks of the art development and efforts to revive glass traditions in the utilitarian forms of glass and the ornaments of various decorative glassworks. The personality of S. Ušinskas takes the most important place in the consolidation of professional glass industry. The works of this glassmaker in Kaunas glass factory “Aleksotas” were closely connected to the global glassmaking creative process. Forms and content of his glassworks could be easily distinguished from the other works of Soviet art of the sixties. In the seventieth and eighties. The Lithuanian higher schools of art started training of the glassmaking specialists. This was the main reason for the separation of the two trends of glass art: exhibitional and factory made glass. Thanks to it, the panorama of Lithuanian artistic glass has been extended up to the bounds of today.
