ENStutter is a speech defect which negatively affects a child’s personality. The process of stutter curing at preschool age is closely related to the emotionally safe training environment which in its turn is mostly influenced by the child’s family. Music at home, i.e. traditions of performing music at home, musical background etc., play an important role in the upbringing of stuttering children. In attempt to investigate peculiarities of musical expression of a stuttering child, his/her musical environment at home and musical preferences, 108 families raising up stuttering children were questioned (68 of them had a stuttering son and 40 had a stuttering daughter). The investigation revealed that: musical preferences of stuttering children are directly related to the musical environment at home, namely, musical traditions, parents’ attitude towards musical education; girls and boys of the investigated group had different preferences in musical activities and choose different ways of self-expression in music; parents were not able to contribute more effectively neither to the musical education of their children at home, nor to the creation of stimulating musical environment at home. The results of the investigation are important for a teacher of music whose cooperation with other educators and parents makes it possible to influence formation of musical environment for stuttering children in a preschool group or at home. Moreover, preparation of individual musical activities can have a beneficiery effect on education of such children. [From the publication]
