ENThe growth of international trade leads to increase of importance of transport links between major trading partners. Currently the biggest trade accounts for the European Union, the United States and China. For less prosperous countries an opportunity to mediate in distant trade partners arises, which in the case of Lithuania means adapting to EU transport policy and creating transport system competitive with the neighbouring states. Skilful use of the opportunity includes the harmonization of the different modes of transport on the major routes intersecting transnational Lithuania, where the leading role is played by the seaport of Klaipeda.
