Summary / Abstract:

ENPost-modernism is a post-morality age because it disregards higher, unconditional values, such as service to others and self-denial. At the foundation of post-modern ethics lies the authority crisis. According to a contemporary French philosopher Gilles Lipovetsky, an ethic, who proclaims the individual right to autonomy, happiness, and individual fulfillment, has formed. His conclusions raise disturbing questions about personal joy and anguish in modem democracy. A problem within this context exists because autonomy tends to be misregarded at the University in the case of an individual. A Lithuanian example shows how easily and conveniently a student, who is trying to assess the programme of a re-established University is get rid of. A simplified consumer economy predominates, where “to be” is to buy, consume, use, and throw away.
