ENThe article gives a chronological overview of sermon studies from the 15th to the 18th century, analyzing literary, historical, culturological and textological sermon studies (monographs, articles or other works related to the genre of sermon), as well as publications of sermons. The medieval sermon has been virtually unresearched in Lithuania. In respect to the medieval sermon, the present article discusses a translation from Latin into Lithuanian of a memorial sermon written for the funeral of Prince Casimir. Of the 16th-century sermons, the ones most researched are in Lithuanian. This article discusses in detail three postillas published in Lithuanian with critical commentaries. The most copious are studies of the 17th-century sermon. This is related to the abundance of publications of sermons of various types written at that time. In respect to the 17th-century sermon, the article examines two monographs analyzing funeral sermons and also touches on important or thematically interesting articles. Concerning the studies of 18th-century sermons, the article looks into the only so far existing monograph on the occasional sermon of the Enlightenment and two publications of Enlightenment sermons with translations and commentaries. Even though the sermon of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania is the subject of in-depth research, such topics as sermons in other languages (Polish and Latin) or Protestant sermons has been little studied. There is also a perceivable lack of translations and monographs focusing on key preachers of certain time periods.
