ENThe National Museum of Lithuania holds the surviving archaeological collections from the Vilnius Museum of Antiquities, including a collection amassed by the museum's founder Eustachy Tyszkiewicz. Quite a significant part of this collection consists of finds from the Stone Age, mainly socketed and shaft-hole axes. Today, the finds given to the museum by Tyszkiewicz cannot be distinguished among the stone artefacts of the Vilnius Museum of Antiquities, as they have lost their certificates. 445 stone and flint artefacts, which were included in the catalogue of the Vilnius Museum of Antiquities published in 1885 (Каталог предметов Музея древностей, состоящаго при Виленской публичной библиотеке, второе издание, Вильна, 1885), allow us to think that they constituted quite a large part in the museum's general collection. Referring to the information published by Tyszkiewicz in the book Badania archeologiczne nad zabytkami przedmiotow sztuki, rzemiosl i t. d. wdawnej Litwie i Rusi Litewskiej ("Archaeological Research of Art and Crafts and Other Ancient Monuments in Early Lithuania and Lithuania-Rus", Vilnius, 1850), we can draw a conclusion that part of this collection consisted of stone finds discovered in Lithuania and Lithuania-Rus', mainly in the Minsk and Kaunas governorates. Another part of the collection consists of finds from the Stone and Bronze Age, which were brought by Tyszkiewicz from his trip to the Scandinavian countries in 1843. During this scientific trip the count took interest not only in the museums and private collections, but also acquired from local collectors.a small but impressive collection of 99 stone, flint and shale artefacts, typologically quite diverse and characteristic of those countries. He gave this entire collection to the Vilnius Museum of Antiquities. The collection is briefly described in the above-mentioned catalogue of the restructured Vilnius Museum of Antiquities of 1885. It is currently held at the National Museum of Lithuania. The museum also holds part of Tyszkiewiczs Iron Age collection, which contains the 4th-5th century hoard from Krasny Bor (today, Belarus) - details of enamel-decorated silver belts. Part of this hoard was held in the Vilnius Museum of Antiquities. Today, 8 fragments of belts are held at the National Museum of Lithuania. Another part of this hoard had remained in the Lahoysk collection until World War I, and was taken to Poland in 1919. At the present time three fragments of belts are held at the State Archaeological Museum in Warsaw (Panstwowe Muzeum Archeologiczne). The National Museum of Lithuania also holds 34 finds (10th-12th c.) from the excavations carried out by Tyszkiewicz in Lahoysk environs in 1837. During this expedition eleven tumuli were excavated. The following finds have reached our days: brass buckles (3 items), brass buckle frames (12 items), brass balance plates (2 items), a brass pedant, brass bracelets (2 items), brass coils (2 items), brass temple rings (5 items), silver temple rings (6 items), a fragment of a silver earring, and a coiled clay pot. A 13th century silver torque from Veliuona (Jurbarkas region), a brass torque from Tauragnai (Utena region) [...]. [From the publication]
