LTJokia literatūros istorija neįsivaizduojama be Maironio kaip kanoninio autoriaus.
ENThis paper discusses the Lithuanian literature canonical author Maironis' monumental phenomenon. The term "monumental author" is borrowed from Friedrich Nietzsche's philosophy; this is a good example of the variety of ways - adoration, critical, denial, ideologization, idealization - encouraging progress in literature. Maironis quite early became a canonical author, an ideal subject which conceptualized divided literary events; Lithuanian literary modernism was associated with his name, he was a pioneer and developer of poetical genres; he represented national epoch of ideas; he was creator and distributor of ideals. Looking at the literary histories highlights the evolution of the canonical text features that are common to all mankind and the permanent values which were defined by the first professional philologist Ludwig Rhesa (Liudvikas Rėza). These features accompanied Maironis' creation from the first mention in literary history. This is the ideal of beauty, intimate connection with nature, noble love of the motherland, language, customs, content, clarity, smoothness and consistency of form. Looking at the literary histories evaluation of Maironis as a canonical author depends on the methodological structure or ideology. But ideological objections did not diminish Maironis' monumentality, only further accentuated it.
