ENThe article discusses the Art Nouveau phenomena in Lithuanian literature at the beginning of 20th century in the affirmative attitude towards the word, secessionist motives (spring, youth, feast), topics (water, waves, whirls, blossom) and ornamental images as formulated in the poetry of Kazys Binkis, Balys Sruoga, Juozas Tysliava, and Kleopas Jurgelionis. The rhythm and movement are seen in their works as basis for creating relations between the individual and the universe. However, the role of authorities is distinct in the poetry of Salomėja Nėris (Rilke, Böcklin, Viennese secession). She builds on the feeling of ambivalence at the level of roles and emotions, distinctive for secession; her monistic world-view appears in ornamental metaphors. What is declared is not merely the beauty of life and movement forms, but rather a feast of human existence, the uniqueness of every moment and their interrelation in a holistic perspective on life. All those phenomena dispersed in Neoromanticism and Symbolism (also partly in the avant-garde) determine the ideas, world-view and poetics of Lithuanian secession.
