ENThe author of the article discuses how the German army repressed the Catholic clergy in Seinai and Seinai Diocese at the beginning of the First World War. The German army entered Seinai on September 7, 1914. The vice-rector of the seminary Romuald Jalbrzykowski was arrested the same day. Soon he was released. On September 9 the German authorities arrested bishop Antanas Karosas. The vice-rector of the seminary R. Jalbrzykowski stood up for the bishop, thus he was also discharged. The invaders took hostages to scare people off and stop any kinds of rebellion. The priests were common hostages. They were also asked to provide food for horses and shelter for the soldiers.
