ENThe territory of the Suvalkai region was incorporated into Ost Preussen and brought under the German authority control after the certain confusion and the two-week stay of the Soviet Army in October 1939. 200 Jews were displaced from the region of Vižainis on 27 October in 1939. The situation of the local Lithuanians and Poles deteriorated. German and Soviet talks started soon after the Soviet occupation of Lithuania in January 1940. They signed the bilateral agreement on the strength of which the citizens of Germany and people with the German descent had to be displaced from Soviet Lithuania to Germany, and meanwhile the citizens of Soviet Lithuania and people with the Lithuanian, Russian, Belarusian descent had to be displaced from the territories occupied by Germans (Klaipėda, the Suvalkai region) to Soviet Lithuania. 11955 people of the Lithuanian descent left the Suvalkai region.
