ENThe usage of pseudonyms is the characteristic feature of European countries. The dictionaries of pseudonyms with thousands of entries (pseudonyms used by men of letters) are published in many countries. There are a number of publications regarding this subject in Lithuania. Two-volume dictionary: ‘Lithuanian Pseudonyms, the Collection from the Publications up to 1990’ is the fundamental publication. Seinai is mentioned in all the publications on the subject of pseudonyms, since it was the centre of Lithuanian publications at the beginning of the 20th century. 750 pseudonyms were recorded in the weekly magazine ‘Šaltinis’, 175 pseudonyms were recorded in the monthly magazine ‘Vadovas’, 135 pseudonyms - in the biweekly magazine ‘Spindulys’, 110 pseudonyms - in ‘Šaltinėlis’. All the mentioned above magazines were published in Seinai.
