LTStraipsnyje nagrinėjamos pagrindinės geologijos vystymosi tendencijos nuo Ignoto Domeikos iki mūsų laikų. I. Domeikos gyvenimo ir veiklos metai – laikotarpis, kai buvo padėti geologijos pagrindai. Žinios apie Baltarusijos. I. Domeikos gimtinės, gelmių sandarą tuo metu buvo skurdžios. Tačiau XIX amžiuje čia atlikti tyrimai padėjo pagrindus būsimoms viso regiono geologijos studijoms. Straipsnyje aprašomi pagrindiniai dabartinės geologijos bruožai. Geologija nebelaikoma tik priemone naudingųjų iškasenų ištekliams didinti. Geologų veiklos sritis, sprendžiant pagrindinius žmonijos tikslus, pasislinko nuo tradicinės paieškos prie tausojančios aplinką plėtros, pradedant nuo integralumo filosofijos.

ENThe dynamics of the main tendencies ofgeology from the time of Ignacy Domeyko to our days is traced in the paper. The time of I. Domeyko’s life and activities was a period when the basis for the geology was laid. The knowledge of the structure of the entrails of Belarus, which was I. Domeyko ’s motherland, was quite poor at that time. However, the research carried out there in the 19tth century laid the foundations of the further geological study of the area. The main features ofthe current geology are characterized in the paper. Geology has stopped being consideredjust an instrument for increasing the number of mineral resources involved in the circulation. The sphere ofgeologists ’participation in solving the key goals ofmankind is shiftingfrom the traditional exploring to the problems ofthe sustainable development starting with the philosophy of integrity.
