ENMonarchic ideas were very vivid in Europe during the reconstruction of the Lithuanian state. Intensive search for the heir to the throne was conducted in 1917-1918. Because of the lack of legitimate descendants of earlier dynasties, Duke Wilhelm von Uracha from Württemberg was broughtto Lithuania and was named Mindaugas II. His reign lasted just for few months, as Lithuania declared to be a republican state (in 1920 on the decision of the Legislative Parliament). However, monarchic ideas survived among the members of the Order of the Yotvingian Cross. The Constitution of the Order was enacted in Kražiai on September 12, 1918. The members of the Order were people of noble descent, and the power was based on the principle of hierarchy. The Grand Master had a role of a monarch and was also called the successor of Yotvingian Chiefs. The ruling was the duty of the Chapter. This article contains photos, extracts of the Constitution, descriptions of insignias, the list of the privileges of the Order knight and the text of the oath.
