ENDublication, competition and migration of the ethnic names "Litva" and "Rus’" as the factor of complexity of formation of the self-name of Belarusian people, numerous change of the state status of the Belarusian territories have caused a variety in identification of official language of the GDL and people - its “carrier”. The name of official language of the GDL was accepted already by many Polish, Lithuanian and Russian experts as "Old Belarusian". But the revival of national ideologies in a post-Soviet countries has revived also discussions about the political status of the Belarusian people and its language. It has reanimated already recognized is scientific unjustified of definitions of official language of the GDL as "Russian", "West Russian", "Slavic official". The author proves the thesis about independence of Old Belarusian language by arguments about its dialectic base, representation of features of alive language practically already in the first texts in national language created on the Belarusian territory (deed - hramata), system of differences of Belarusian language from Old Russian and Old Ukrainian.
