ENNowadays the fastest-growing and most competitive economies in the world and Europe are built on knowledge and innovation. An example of a sector whose development is one of the main priorities of the EU's economic policy is the information and communication technologies sector (ICT). The purpose of this article is to determine the importance of the ICT sector for the international competitiveness of the Lithuanian economy. In order to achieve thise goal, the following indicators characterizing the ICT sector will be examined: the sales value of goods and services in domestic and foreign markets, its share in creating added value and employment, expenditure on R&D and its share in the national GDP. To determine the development of the ICT sector in Lithuania compared to other EU countries the Networked Readiness Index – the ranking compiled by the World Eco-nomic Forum – will be used in the analysis. The analysis will be carried out through the use of an inductive research approach.
