Współczesna historiografia litewska o wydarzeniach końca drugiej wojny światowej i jej skutkach dla Litwy: mity, koniunktura, poszukiwanie obiektywizmu

ENIn the works of Lithuanian Soviet historians written and edited under the supervision of officials from the Ideological Department of the Communistic Party Central Committee the struggle for Lithuania’s independence from German occupation, the issues of Soviet administration restoration and the country’s reconstruction, mostly transport, industry, education and cities, were stressed. A leading role of the communistic party of Lithuania and its local organizations were particularly emphasized, which involved a detailed enumeration of various resolutions and regulations and significant effects of their execution. A lot of magazines, memoirs and historical works were published in exile, however, the events from the end of the War did not attract the emigration historians’ greater attention. In the past fifteen years a major scientific work on exposing such issues of the recent history of homeland as guerrilla warfare, repressions and deportations have been carried out in Lithuania. A lot of different kinds of publications were published: memoirs and archives, which were completely unavailable for researchers in Soviet times, as well as monographs and biographies, sometimes almost fictional. The memoirs of ex-partisans, political prisoners and deportees are greatly varied as far as their value is concerned, some of them are just unreliable. A unique three volume collection of facsimiles of political, administrative and repressive documents of Soviet structures (all of them in Russian), most of which was top secret, deserves special attention among the archives publications. The issue of the purposefulness and evaluation of the guerilla warfare for the Lithuanian nation remains almost taboo.
