Summary / Abstract:

ENThe purpose of this article is to present the potential, as well as the main barriers to the development of hydropower in Lithuania. The rapid development of renewable energy, including hydropower, is a result of the European Union energy policy. However, hydropower is growing much more slowly compared to alternative renewable energy technologies. The main thesis of the article say that the process of the development of hydropower in Lithuania has been halted due to national legal regulations and the protection of the environment.
