ENThe scythe maintenance tools are displayed in the NML Ethnography Division. These are the used anvils, hammers, hones, whetstones and their cases used by the Lithuanian peasantry. The objects date back to the end of 19lh century- the beginning of the 20th century. There are 76 items in total. Metal anvils were inserted into wooden planes or into beddings of various shapes. In the 20th century turnery beddings appeared. Hones were made of stone, sometimes a handle was attached to them. Whetstones are wooden planks of rectangular form or the form of a pallet with a shaft. The cases of the whetstones were usually made of wood, they were either of round or rectangular shape with tapering ends. 8 whetstone cases, out of 28, arc ornamented with floral, animal or sky objects patterns. The oldest tool dates back to 1887.
