LTRecenzuojamas leidinys „Piemenys – banda – ganymo papročiai: piemenų kultūra Lietuvoje“ vertinamas kaip Lietuvos ir jos etninės kultūros pristatymas pasauliui, ypač vokiškai kalbančiai Europos erdvei. Knygos sudarytojai Manfredas Kleinas ir Gerhardas Baueris, besidomintys Lietuvos kaimo XIX a. antrosios pusės ir XX a. pirmosios pusės istorija bei socialine struktūra, tiria piemenavimo klausimus, nes Lietuvos kaimo ir jo bendruomenės socialinio gyvenimo kultūroje gyvulininkystė ir ganymas užėmė reikšmingą vietą. Ši tema nusipelno dėmesio tuo labiau, kad ganymas pievose praeityje turėjo didelę reikšmę ir daugelyje kitų regionų, o Lietuva šiuo atžvilgiu yra išlaikiusi ilgalaikes aktualias buvusios piemenų gyvensenos tradicijas. Recenzijoje pristatomi knygos sudarytojų bei keturių Lietuvos mokslininkų – prof. habil. dr. Vacio Miliaus, habil. dr. Juozo Kudirkos, prof. habil. dr. Romualdo Apanavičiaus ir prof. habil. dr. ENThe reviewed publication entitled Herds-Flock-Herding Customs: Culture of Herds in Lithuania is evaluated as introduction of Lithuania and its ethnic culture to the world and especially the German speaking Europe. Authors of the book Manfred Klein and Gerhard Bauer—interested in history and social structure of Lithuania village of the second half of the 19th and the first half of the 20th centuries—are analyzing herding issues as cattle and herding had a significant part in culture of the Lithuanian village and social life of its community. This topic also deserves attention because herding in meadows had a significant meaning in many other regions and Lithuania in this respect has maintained enduring relevant traditions of former lifestyle of herds. The review introduces articles by the book authors as well as four Lithuanian scientists—professor habilitated doctor Vacys Milius, habilitated doctor Juozas Kudirka, professor habilitated doctor Romualdas Apanavičius, and professor habilitated doctor Bronislava Kerbelytė—which are related to this field of Lithuanian culture of agronomy in the 19th and the first half of the 20th century.
