LTŽvelgiant į kiekvieno žmogaus patiriamą kančią, kaip ir į viso kančios pasaulio ištakas, neišvengiamai kyla klausimas, kodėl? XXa. pab.–XXI a. pr. onkologinė liga dažniausiai kelia šį klausimą, ji ypač keičia asmens dvasinę būklę. Straipsnyje atskleidžiama onkologinių ligų dvasinė ir psichologinė įtaka sergančiajam bei jo artimiesiems. Pirmiausia teoriškai, daugiausia remiantis E. Kubler-Ross tyrimais, aptariama asmens, sergančio onkologine liga, ir jo artimųjų dvasinės būsenos kaita. Tada empiriškai ištiriama onkologinių ligų dvasinė įtaka sergančiajam ir jo artimiesiems.
