LTDabartis reikalauja iš žmonių mobilumo ir neprisirišimo prie daiktų. Ar tai įgyvendinama? Daiktai kasdien visą gyvenimą lydi žmogų, bet nedažnai tampa jo apmąstymo tema. Šio straipsnio tikslas - apibrėžti daiktų svarbą žmonių gyvenime iš jų perspektyvos, darant prielaidą, kad tai apima ir taurelę, ir žemę. Du autoriai parodo, kaip atrodo tas santykis paėmę interviu iš lenkų, gyvenančių Vilniaus krašte. Kelių kartų gyvenimas tame pačiame rajone parodo, kad erdvė tampa vis artimesnė ir įgauna simbolinę prasmę. Stebėdami šį procesą, įsitikinome tuo, kad santykis tarp žmogaus ir daikto yra simetriškas, bei tuo, kokia didelė daikto reikšmė žmogaus tapatybei. Materija yra simbolių nešėja, todėl ir istorijoje tinkamas požiūris į daiktą leidžia perskaityti turinį, kuris kitaip liktų nepastebėtas. Istorijos, perduodamos daiktų „akimis“, yra ne mažiau įdomios, nei žmonių perteikiamos.

ENThe contemporary times require people to be mobile and not to care about material objects. The question rises, if these conditions arc even possible? Objects accompany people along their everyday lives, however, they seldom become the subject of peoples consideration. The aim of this article is to outline the meaning of material items in human life from the perspective of those items, keeping in mind that by "items" we can understand a glass as well as a strip of land. The two authors present this relation on the example of data gathered by means of interviews with the Poles living in the Vilnius region. When people live in one space for generations, this space starts to become "tamed" and thus gains a symbolic meaning. Thorough observation of this process enabled us to come to the conclusion that the relation man - object is a symmetric one and also how important axe things in constituting the identities of people. Material objects are mediums of meaning, including history, thus the right approach to them allows us to read the content otherwise left unnoticed. The stories seen through "the eyes" of things are no less interesting than those told by humans.
