Summary / Abstract:

ENThe article deals with the speech, which has been said on 15 of September l808 at the public Vilnius University meeting, to professor Pranciškus Smuglevičius’ recollection. That was a formal posthumous obituary of an artist, the first survey of P. Smuglevičius biography and creation, one of the first texts on Lithuanian art history very high valuable. In this notice reflect the main estimation aspects of art of the 18th c. The P. Smuglevičius’ merits are estimated according the genre orientation of creation for attention to historical paintings. The artist’s position to aim at drawing and composition correctness is underlined, his merits to perpetuate the views of Vilnius as to show his patriotizm, which was characteristic for neoclassistic culture. The article is not an exhaustive analysis of F. N. Golański oration but the first attemt to introduce this text to contemporary art research history of the most interesting texts of the 19th c.
