Summary / Abstract:

ENIf one had to describe briefly and quickly a unicorn, the description perhaps would be similar to this one: "a mythological animal, similar to a horse, with a horn in a forehead". And then fantastical narratives would follow. Nevertheless, as in any other description of a mythological animal, one shouldn't forget that somewhere resides the beginning of all beginnings on the basis of which all myths and legends were formed. It is known that unicorn is one of the most popular assumed animals. Imagination played a major role in the origin of the unicorn, firstly in the Greek-Roman culture and later in Europe of the Middle Ages. But is a unicorn totally imaginative? It is obviously a white horse with a horn; virgin girls chase for it. There is no possibility that it ever existed or still exists, except in our imagination. But it doesn't matter, as we already talk about myths and legends where reality and imagination intertwine. And when faced with the almost perceptible reality, in which massive unicorn hunts or trades of unicorn horns, fur and blood were organized in the Middle Ages, it is difficult to persuade oneself of a mankind not realizing what is real and what is invented.
