Baltų Faustas archetipo labirinte
LTRecenzijoje aptariama Silvestro Gaižiūno knyga „Baltų Faustas ir Europos literatūra“, kuri publikuota 2002 metais. Tai devyniolikos metų mokslinių tyrinėjimų rezultatas, apibendrinantis daugybę faustiškos temos interpretacijų. Medžiaga rinkta Rygoje ir Prahoje, Leipcige ir Knitlingene, studijų tikslais lankytasi Norvegijoje ir Šveicarijoje. Monumentali Gaižiūno studija nėra visai įprastas reiškinys lietuvių literatūrologijos kontekste, nes joje užsimota į baltiškąją erdvę įvesti vieną populiariausių europinės literatūros archetipų. Baltų Faustas – tai visų pirma latvių faustianos personažas. Latviai du praėjusius šimtmečius nepaliaujamai plėtojo faustiškąją tradiciją, o lietuviai beveik jos nepastebėjo. Studijoje akivaizdi disproporcija: sunku rasti lietuviškų paralelių, tuo tarpu latviškų kūrinių pavadinimai bei jų autorių vardai mirgėte mirga ir turinyje, ir knygos tekste. Autorius remiasi plačiu teoriniu ir istoriniu kontekstu, formuluoja baltų Fausto sąvoką. Antrasis studijos pavadinimo komponentas įpareigoja autorių pasirinktu aspektu apžvelgti europinę literatūrą. Viena akivaizdžių faustiškojo archetipo dimensijų – tai visuotinis žmogaus egzistencijos dvilypumas. Knygoje šis archetipas įgyja truputį mistinį pavidalą. Silvestro Gaižiūno mokslinė studija, apimanti daugelį dimensijų, atskleidžia autoriaus erudiciją ir parašyta su įkvėpimu. Nors padaryta daug, atrodo, kad faustiškas nepasitenkinimas tuo, kas pasiekta, ves knygos autorių jo pasirinkti keliu toliau.
ENThe review discusses "Baltų Faustas ir Europos literatūra" ("Faust of the Balts and European Literature") by Silvestras Gaižiūnas in 2002. This book is the result of nineteen years of scientific research, exploring many interpretations of the ideas portrayed in the original work. Data for the research was sought in Riga and Prague, as well as Leipzig and Knittlingen, Norway and Switzerland. The monumental research by Gaižiūnas is not a particularly regular occurence in the context of Lithuanian literaturology because of its ambition to integrate one of the most popular archetypes of European literature into the Baltic environment. Faust of the Balts is first and foremost a character of Latvian Faustic culture. During the last two centuries the Latvians have consistently been developing the Faustic tradition, which the Lithuanians had barely noticed. A clear disproportion emerges from the study: it is difficult to find Lithuanian parallels, meanwhile Latvian titles of works and names of the authors can be found anywhere both in the content and the text of the book itself. The author defines the concept of Faust of the Balts through the use of wide theoretical and historical context. The second component of the title of the study requires the author to review European literature based on a chosen aspect. One of the most apparent dimensions of the Faust archetype is the global duality of human existence. In the book, this archetype is considered as rather mystical. The scientific study by Silvestras Gaižiūnas is a work of true inspiration that comprises many dimensions and reveals the erudition of the author. Despite the fact that a lot has been achieved in this particular field, it seems that the Faust-like dissatisfaction with current achievements will motivate the author to delve into further research.
