ENThe subject of this study is connotative meanings of adjective, denoting color red (raudonas). The study has demonstrated, that the connotative meaning of adjective red can be only distinguished in the context. In order to successfully define adjectival connotations, it was essential to identify the contextual words, which pay a significant role in realization of adjective connotations. Adjectives, denoting color names, usually appear in word combinations alongside with nouns, defining objects with a distinct color application. In the process of the research two clear cases have been pointed out: a) the case of the object having the quality "kind of/distinct color"; b) the case of the object not necessarily having a distinct quality "kind of/distinct color", where the object can be of "any color which is like..." While researching a broader context, certain pccularitics have been traced, related to semantic elements of adjectives (color names) and the way they arc used in the context, composing a compound seme, which cnabeled to clasify them into pecular groups. It can be stated that the most common type of semes, (hat are used with adjective red, is the groups of emotional and visual semes. It can be stated, that the color name red has the connotations: 1. "Associated with passion, love, beauty, health", 2. Associated with worry, threat, fight, death".
