Summary / Abstract:

ENThe paper is dedicated to the problem of beauty in art in the aesthetics of interwar Lithuanians. The creeds of the most dramatic representatives of catholic aesthetics - Adomas Jakštas, Stasys Šalkauskis, Jonas Grinius - are analyzed. It is sought to reveal the similarity and differences of neo-scholastic approach of the postulate of truth, goodness and beauty in the conception of academic philosopher Šalkauskas and Jakštas, who actively participated in art criticism. The objective and normative nature of the concept of beauty of the catholic aesthetics of the third decade is discussed. Its (as the approach to art critics) results are highlighted: confining to a classical paradigm, dogmatic arguments against the reclamation of modernism experiences, moralistic criterion of artistic value. When in the forth decade there was a spread of the ideas of "wide Catholicism" in an intellectual life, and when intuitive theories were spreading in an aesthetic thought, the renewal was taking place in the topic of catholic aesthetics as well. Grinius was more than his precursors concerned with the questions of beauty subjectivity and historicity of aesthetic norms in theory and the validation of moderated modernism in art practice.
