ENThe first time article deals with the picture “Crucifix“ painted by Pranciškus Smuglevičius, which is now at the Church of the Assumption (Vytautas Magnus) in Kaunas. The authoress of this article according to the different periods of Pranciškus Smuglevičius’ creation and research of the same painting shows the period of “Crucifix” creation - the junction of the 9th and the 10th decennia of the 18th c., also - its - religious art example’s originality and innovation. The investigation of archives’ sources and historical documents gave enough reasons to the authoress’ assertions that the “Crucifix“ was painted by Pranciškus Smuglevičius while he returned from Italy. The painting was done to order of discalced Carmelites to Kaunas Saint Cross Church.
