Summary / Abstract:

ENIn the second half of the 17th century according to the design of Jonas Kristupas Glaubicas was reconstructed Vilnius Church of Holy Trinity and monastery ansemble. In 1785-1800 it was decorated with six altar paintings by Pranciškus Smuglevičius. Two larger of six paintings, four cubits, height (or 213 cm x 129 cm size) painted on canvas were hung on the north church’s wall St. Onufrij (St. Anupras) and on the south church’s wall (St. Peter and Paul). Those altars had only brick altar’s tables and architectural elements framing, the paintings were illusorically depicted on the wall. Other four, twice lower, two cubits height (or 120 cm x 63 cm size) paintings by Pranciškus Smuglevičius were equiped in altars near the pilars. The second - God Jesus (or the Saviour) altar was near the first south-east pilar (125 cm x 78 cm). The sixth - St. Bazilius altar was near the second south pilar. The eighth - St. Nicolas altar was near the third south pilar. The ninth - St. Macrina altar, near the third north pilar (141 cm x 70 cm). We can not say where are all those six noticed paintings by Pranciškus Smuglevičius now. The most prominent creator Pranciškus Smuglevičius collaborated with unites also in applied graphic and in 1791 created antimen sa. He most probably was an author of printed antimensas in 1785, 1787, 1800 to the Church of Holy Trinity. Only a deep analysis of P. Smuglevičius and his brothers’ creation and new archives data can confirm or deny the hypothesis about creation of decorative wall polichromy, organ pedestal (base), also creation of iconostasis under the leadership of the most prominent painter.
