ENThe objective of this article is to fathom out the paradigm of social movements and to analyse squatter movement that has its own traditions. Also try to understand the reasons and the outcome of this movement in the life of societies. Another point of this article - try to find the manifestations of this movement in Lithuania and understand what importance does it have in our country. There is no common definition of squating, in the most elementary sense it Is living in the building without the permission of the owner. The end of the World War II could be considered the beginning of squating, when thousands of people who were left without a shelter, used to occupy abandoned military tamps and adjust it to their needs. However, squating as a social movement formed later, in the 70s and 80s of XX century. Groups and individuals made squating political, uniting in collectives to fight against accommodation owners, minicipalities and governments. Their ideas, demands to the government, manner of the expression form the movement that can be ascribed to the family leftist liberal social movements. It is similar to the ecological or new peace movements.
